Outdoor sculpture is a wonderful combination of art and history that everyone can enjoy each day. Unfortunately, these works of art are in peril due to graffiti, vandalism and pollution, regardless of material. Bronze artworks can suffer losses from acidic pollution, bird droppings, or water damage. Painted sculptures can be affected by water mineral deposits, vandalism and taggers.

The conservation and maintenance of Scottsdale’s Public Art Collection is essential to preserving the City’s cultural heritage for future generations. The Scottsdale Public Art Program identifies works of art that require conservation and develops a priority list of care and maintenance projects based upon the condition of the artwork and other factors.

The art in the Scottsdale Public Art Program’s care must be maintained by trained professionals, who understand the inherent characteristics of the materials from which they are made. If you see artwork that is in need of care, please contact the Collections Manager, Wendy Raisanen at 480-874-4679 or email her at wendyr@sccarts.org.

"GRAFFITI" shall mean any writing, printing, symbol, figure, design or other material written, sprayed, painted, or otherwise applied to any exterior surface of a building, wall, fence, sidewalk, curb or other permanent structure without the authority or consent of the owner of such property or of a person authorized by the owner of such property to give consent.

Graffiti on public art maintained by the Scottsdale Public Art Program should be taken off only by professionals contracted through the program. If you see graffiti on Scottsdale’s public art, please contact the Collections Manager, Wendy Raisanen at 480-874-4679 or email her at wendyr@sccarts.org as soon as possible.
