Mod is in the Details: Photographs by Liz Cohen

November 10 - December 5, 2008

The Gallery at the Scottsdale Civic Center Library

Comprised of photographs by Liz Cohen and objects provided by car owners, this show depicts the Phoenix Valley lowrider culture. The photographs show the passion and dedication that everyday men and women have for their cars and bicycles.

Radical cars possess the most modifications of any other class in the lowrider car culture. They are made for shows and competitions, like prized treasures, and are almost never driven on the streets. The creation of a radical lowrider is a family experience. Often, the children will help their parents with the making of a radical bike, and eventually get enough experience to create their own radical car.

Also featured in the show is a video taken at the March 20th Radical Mod car show on the Scottsdale Civic Center Mall, organized by Liz Cohen and sponsored by Scottsdale Public Art.

Liz Cohen, who grew up in Phoenix, is working on her own radical car, the Trabantamino, an East German Trabant which can transform into an El Camino. You can find more about Liz's Trabantamino at http://www.myspace.com/trabantamino
